Evening work from home jobs that fit after the kids are in bed
The best evening work from home jobs are the ones where evenings are when the work actually happens: appointment setting and remote closing (people book sales calls after their own workday), customer service shifts, and flexible tasks like virtual assistant work you can do once the house is quiet. For mums (moms in the US) in Australia and the US, time zones add a twist: a late Sydney evening lines up with early morning on the US East Coast, and a US evening lines up with the Australian working morning. She Sells trains women in both countries for remote setting and closing roles, and the She Soars program includes placement support once you’re certified.
Evening work from home jobs, compared
Here’s a quick comparison of evening-friendly options. Pay figures come from public salary data, vary widely, and are mostly based on full-time roles, so a few evening hours a week will earn proportionally less.
| Job | Why it suits evenings | Pay notes (source) | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Appointment setter (calls or DMs) | Leads often reply and pick up after work; US-facing businesses need early-morning US hours covered | US median about US$16.08/hr (Payscale); AU average A$65,000 to A$85,000 full-time (SEEK) | Commission-heavy roles with no base |
| Remote closer | Prospects book sales calls in their evenings; you can open set evening call blocks | Mostly commission; see our closer pay guide | Needs training and practice before you’re hired |
| Customer service (remote) | Many call centres run evening and late shifts | US median US$21.53/hr, May 2025 (BLS) | Rostered shifts can be less flexible |
| Virtual assistant | Inbox, scheduling and admin can often be done whenever you like | US median US$19.70/hr (Payscale); AU average A$55,000 to A$60,000 full-time (SEEK) | Clients may still want daytime replies |
| Online tutoring | Students study after school and in the evening | Varies by platform and subject; check each platform’s own rates | Platforms that charge you to join |
Sources for the pay figures: Payscale appointment setter (median US$16.08 an hour, 10th to 90th percentile US$12.74 to US$20.85, updated May 2026), SEEK appointment setter (based on full-time salary ranges disclosed in SEEK ads), BLS customer service representatives, Payscale virtual assistant (10th to 90th percentile US$12.71 to US$29.89, updated June 2026) and SEEK virtual assistant.
The AU and US time-zone angle (with the real numbers)
You’ll often hear that “Australian evenings overlap US mornings”. It’s partly true, and the details matter if you’re planning around bedtime. These times come from the standard time-zone database, and they shift twice a year because Australia and the US change their clocks on different dates.
| Your evening | New York (US East) | Los Angeles (US West) |
|---|---|---|
| Sydney or Melbourne 8pm (October) | 5am | 2am |
| Sydney or Melbourne 10pm (October) | 7am | 4am |
| Sydney or Melbourne 10pm (November to early March) | 6am | 3am |
| Perth 9pm (October) | 9am | 6am |
| Perth 9pm (November to early March) | 8am | 5am |
What that means in practice:
- East Coast Australia: your evening only meets the US East Coast early morning if you’re working late, roughly 10pm to midnight. The US West Coast is still asleep. Sydney’s daylight saving runs from 4 October 2026 to 4 April 2027, and the US is on daylight time until 1 November 2026 and again from 14 March 2027, so the gap moves by an hour in between.
- Perth (and to a lesser extent Brisbane, which has no daylight saving): a normal evening lines up much better with US East Coast business mornings. Perth 9pm is 8am or 9am in New York depending on the season.
- Australian early mornings are actually the better overlap with the US afternoon and evening. A Sydney 7am in October is 4pm the previous day in New York. If you’re a morning person, that can beat staying up late.
- US mums: it works the other way too. A 7pm to 9pm evening in New York in October is 10am to midday the next day in Sydney, which is prime working time for Australian businesses. Setting or customer support for Australian companies can fit a US after-bedtime routine.
Before you accept an evening role with an overseas business, ask which time zone your hours are set in and whether they change when the clocks do. A role that suits you in October can feel very different in January.

Where She Sells fits
Evening work is where remote sales shines, because people buy coaching, courses and services when they’re home from work. She Sells gives you two halves: the skill and the job.
- She Launches is the foundation program: live coaching, role play and sales frameworks. It doesn’t include direct placement.
- She Soars is the career program through the She Sells “Cert III in Remote Sales” certificate. Once you’re certified, our recruitment team works with you to land a role within 90 days, or your money back.
She Sells also runs a free community and the “She’s Not Selling” podcast if you want to learn more first. You can compare both on our programs page, and if you want to understand the roles first, start with appointment setter jobs from home.
Pay notes, honestly
Evening hours don’t automatically mean better pay. A few things to know:
- Many remote sales roles are commission-heavy or commission-only. Fewer evening hours means fewer conversations, which usually means less commission, especially while you’re learning.
- Public data is mostly full-time. SEEK’s figures come from full-time salary ranges in job ads, so don’t divide them and assume that’s what two evenings a week will pay.
- First months are often small. I made $440 in my first month of remote sales in 2020. That’s my own result, not typical, and I’m sharing it so you set your expectations honestly.
If a job promises big money for a couple of hours a night, be careful. The FTC says an offer claiming you can make a lot of money in a short period of time with little work is almost certainly a scam, and that honest employers will never ask you to pay to get a job. Our guide to legit work from home jobs vs scams has more red flags.
Energy and realism: making evening work actually work
Let’s be honest. After dinner, baths, stories and the third glass of water, you’re not always at your sparkliest. Evening work can absolutely fit around kids, but it pays to set it up deliberately.
Pick work that matches your evening energy
Live sales calls need you switched on: warm, focused and quick on your feet. If you’re wrecked by 9pm, a live call block at 10pm might not be your best work. Async tasks like DM setting, follow-up messages or admin can be kinder on tired brains. Be honest about which version of you shows up at night.
Protect a fixed window
“Whenever they’re asleep” isn’t a schedule. Choose two or three evenings and a fixed window, for example 8pm to 10pm, and tell your partner, family or housemates that’s work time. Businesses that hire for evening shifts need you reliably there.
Guard your sleep
If late US-facing calls mean you’re going to bed at 1am and up at 6:30 with a toddler, that won’t last. Look at the time-zone table above and see whether an early-morning slot or a role with an Australian business suits you better. Our tips on working from home with a toddler help with the practical side.
Set up for quiet
A headset, a door that closes and a quick “please don’t come in” sign go a long way. For calls, a quiet room matters more than a fancy set-up.
How to get started this month
- Write down your real evening hours. Which nights and which window, after bedtime routines are done?
- Check the time-zone fit. Use the table above to see whether those hours suit US-facing or Australian-facing roles.
- Choose a lane. Live calls (closing, phone setting, customer service) or async work (DM setting, VA tasks).
- Get trained if you’re going into sales. Setting and closing are learnable skills, but you need practice and feedback before businesses will hire you.
- Apply with your hours stated clearly. Say exactly when you’re available, including your time zone.

Frequently asked questions
What work from home jobs can I do at night?
Common options are appointment setting, remote closing, customer service shifts, virtual assistant work and online tutoring. Sales roles suit evenings because many prospects are only free after their own workday. Pick the type of work that matches how much energy you have at night.
Do Australian evenings overlap with US business hours?
Only partly. In October, 10pm in Sydney is 7am in New York and 4am in Los Angeles, so East Coast Australians need to work late to reach US mornings. Perth evenings line up better, with 9pm Perth being 8am or 9am in New York depending on the season.
Can US moms work evenings for Australian businesses?
Yes, and the overlap is quite good. A 7pm to 9pm evening in New York in October is 10am to midday the next day in Sydney. That suits setting or support roles with Australian companies, as long as the business is happy with the hours.
How much do evening work from home jobs pay?
It depends on the job, the hours and whether pay includes commission. Public data such as Payscale and BLS gives hourly medians for roles like appointment setting and customer service, and SEEK gives full-time salary ranges in Australia. A few evening hours a week will earn proportionally less than those full-time figures.
Is evening remote sales work too tiring with kids?
It can be if you overcommit. Choose a fixed window on two or three nights, protect your sleep, and consider async work like DM setting if live calls feel like too much late at night. Many women find a short, consistent evening block easier than squeezing work into random gaps.
